Development – Choosing Color Pallets

Now development is taking place a set color scheme needs to be set in place meaning we / I needed to either pick out my own specific colors and write down the RGB codes or search around the web for pre-set collections.

Whilst searching around on the internet I came across:

Below are a few of the pallets I was inspired by:

In the end I went for my own choice of green’s (light / flat) and grey / white for all the happier section and for the deep web section replacing the whites / grays for a very dark grey.

Development – Choosing the correct music

obviously an infographic which is animated needs to have sound. Not only does sound fill an empty space but it gives life to the onscreen features.  Now we’re wanting to look into more sounds than what we have now however for the time being we have used http://www.bensound.com/ with a source of two tracks:

1.  Buddy.mp3

Although starting off light suiting info graphics the duration and overall feel seems too positive for the topic. However could still be a contender.

2. Clear Day.mp3

Still slightly light but fits the animation so far. Could fit with some of the transitions but only time would tell. No.1 choice so far.

**EDIT**

At the end we have gone with Clear day.mp3

Research – Part 3 – Deep Web

1. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2454735/The-disturbing-world-Deep-Web-contract-killers-drug-dealers-ply-trade-internet.html

So this section is majorly sensitive and well a serious aspect of where not to go on the internet. It possesses virtually anything you can think of. As illustrated within this article on the daily mail the deep web is a place where

“Hiring a hitman has never been easier. Nor has purchasing cocaine or heroin, nor even viewing horrific child pornography.”

“Such purchases are now so easy, in fact, that they can all be done from the comfort of one’s home at the click of a button… and there’s almost nothing the police can do about it.”

“This worrying development of the criminal black market is down entirely to the Deep Web – a seething matrix of encrypted websites – also known as Tor – that allows users to surf beneath the everyday internet with complete anonymity”

This info-graphic excellently shows the shire mass of data hidden deep within the internet. Most of which we don’t access, more specifically the content we find via Google / Bing is only 1% of what is out their.

This is to clear confusion on our ends between the dark web and the deep web.

Research – Part 2 – Piracy

To narrow our focus down we did research on various general facts of the internet and then we focused more on the piracy side of the web and eventually our animation developed into an animated infographic warning/informing early teens to adults of just how much power they have over the web.

We gained the information for the animation from various websites such as:

http://www.pewinternet.org/fact-sheets/teens-fact-sheet/  – Although this post is focusing on some of the piracy research gathered by myself the link above as illustrated below is more like audience research but i felt it fits this post more as it focuses on the devices and age groups etc. illustrating the demographic of our chosen primary audience.

Below is a pretty large yet informative image from http://www.go-gulf.com/blog/online-piracy/ and is an info graphic from 2011 stating many piracy facts.

Although the information is outdated I feel it can still be used within our project because it still gets across the message. If anything i reckon it would show how much piracy has grown.

piracy

Phew, you’ve finally reached the bottom. I would almost say the styling of this image is inspiring. We wanted to aim this kind of infographic at a younger teen audience who are most likely are really starting to get to grips with the internet and are starting to become more aware of the wilder side of the web.

Research – Part 1 – The Internet

With the research gathered I thought it would make a good post to collate some of the key areas found, along with the websites used.

1. http://www.internetlivestats.com/

Internet stats live

fc

Nice simple site which provides real time statistics for internet traffic and technology which uses the internet. As for statistics this is as close to latest figures as you can get. keeping the data pretty damn close to IRL. The website also contains trends and more statistics to back them up, making it a pretty good source of information.

2. Teachers and Professionals working with children. – http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-and-resources/teachers-and-professionals

teaxchAlthough the information on this page does not help the animation it does show how teachers are ‘supposed’ to educate and ensure their pupils safety with rearguards to the internet. This was used by myself as an insight into the companies and support already out in action which could be on board with what we as a production group aim to do.

3. Global figures and information – http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.html (Could be used as video statistics but also as audience research)

internetWith a large amount of data showing the mass amounts of users this website gives us both information for the first section of the animation and audience / geographical information for us to know where we could possibly distribute the end product.

The only negative i would say about this site is the date is 2014 which is obviously the year behind ours so facts are not up to date with modern technology growth. However the growth of such information is rapidly growing so the data is useful to compare the usage to the current date.
